Sometimes dreams do come true. And we’ve got the Rihanna / Lupita Nyong’o buddy movie of your dreams to prove it.
Netflix has just scooped up a movie project starring Rihanna and Nyong’o, to be directed by Ava DuVernay (Selma). Issa Rae (Insecure) is in talks to write the screenplay, per Entertainment Weekly.
Incredibly, this all started with a tweet.

As the concept went viral on Twitter, Nyong’o and then Rihanna tweeted that they were in. When fans started calling for DuVernay and Rae to get on board, both of them pledged their support as well.
Production is expected to start sometime in 2018 after DuVernay wraps up her current projects, including Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time. Rae is already said to be working on the script.
