A woman was killed and another woman was injured after a driver attempting to flee the scene of a shooting in the Englewood neighborhood struck their vehicle, police announced Saturday.
The woman, a 47-year-old, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 21-year-old passenger in the car was initially reported by police as having died in the accident, but the Chicago Police Department later reported that she was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:05 a.m. when Chicago Police responded to the 5700 block of South La Salle after hearing gunshots.
Police stopped a white KIA SUV that was exiting an alley near the location, and ordered a passenger, 29-year-old Richard Johnson, to exit the vehicle.
When Johnson complied, the driver of the SUV attempted to flee the scene and struck a Ford Focus. The driver of the Focus was pronounced dead at the scene, and another passenger was injured in the crash.
The driver of the SUV then fled the scene on foot, and police are still looking for their whereabouts.
