If you are dealing with dry hair, there is a simple solution lurking in your pantry right now. Honey is a great way to say goodbye to dryness and hello to gorgeous, healthy hair. Best of all, there are tons of honey hair masks you can make with these simple ingredients. First, let’s look at the powers behind this sweet liquid.
Honey is natural humectant meaning it attracts moisture to hair. It also helps follicles to generate growth and adds shine with its potent antioxidants and nutrients. It is also a powerful moisturizer for your scalp and strands. Honey is also great for using as a base with other superfoods to help spread the moisture onto hair nicely. Don’t try to use just honey however or you will end up a sticky mess with tangled hair. Here are a few of my favorite recipes for honey hair masks.
This mask will pack on the softness while also cleansing hair. In fact, feel free to use this in place of your regular shampoo a few times a month for a special treat for your hair.
Combine ¼ cup of raw honey with 10 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. Apply to wet hair in the shower. Leave on strands for 15 minutes to saturate hair. Rinse with warm water.
When hair is dry and frazzled, this mask will bring it back to life with moisture. The olive oil and honey combined are a powerhouse duo and your hair will be frizz-free and moisturized.
Combine ½ cup of raw honey with ¼ olive oil. If it is too thick to apply to hair, you can warm it up slightly, but make sure you test it before applying to hair and scalp. Apply to hair and cover with shower cap. After about 15 minutes, rinse out with warm water.
If you have a dry, irritated scalp, this mask will make that a thing of the past. The potassium found in bananas combined with the nutrients in honey will help restore balance to your scalp.
Combine ½ cup raw honey and two raw bananas until well mashed into a paste. Apply to hair and scalp. Massage into scalp in circles. Apply shower cap and wait 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water, massaging scalp with fingers.
There is no denying the healing powers of honey. Try out these recipes or create one of your own to see how honey can revive your hair!
