Over the weekend, a father and son in New Jersey became the first members of their family to graduate college and the best part is, they graduated together! Can you say #BlackExcellence?
Fox News reports that Benjamin Jeanty, 27, and his father, Duvinson Jeanty, 53, both graduated from William Paterson University on Friday, May 19.
Benjamin earned a B.A. in psychology while his dad graduated with a bachelor’s degree in finance. “My dad has been a big inspiration for me,” the younger Jeanty told CBS New York. He said he chose to attend WPUNJ because his dad was enrolled there.
Duvinson migrated to the U.S. from Haiti in the 1980s and worked as a NJ Transit bus driver for 25 years until he retired in 2015. He said it had always been his dream to finish college and that he plans to pursue a Master’s in Finance.
In the meantime, Duvinson will be running a real estate company he started and Benjamin says he’ll be working full-time at a special needs school.
