The murder of Jam Master Jay, one-third of the legendary hip-hop group, Run-DMC, has been one of the many unsolved cases within hip-hop.
Today is the 15-year anniversary of his death, and the investigation has officially been ruled a cold case.
According to XXL, police sources say two assailants were buzzed into the DJ’s studio back in 2002. One of the two men hugged the DJ before shooting him at point-blank range in the head.
There were four other people in the studio the night of the shooting, but reportedly no one stepped forward with information to help solve the case.
The Associated Press reports, the New York Police Department has decided to label the incident a cold case.
Jeremy “JL” Lam, a friend of the family said to the AP, “It’s not resolved to the legal eye, but the street always talks.”
Jam Master Jay’s legacy continues to live through his four children. Back in 2009, Run-DMC was officially inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
