Taraji P. Henson and her personal makeup artist Ashunta Sheriff are fabulously gracing the cover of The Hollywood Reporter. Find out what ladies dished on about Cookie Lyon’s face beats and get the deets on Rihanna’s new beauty and photo agency inside….
When two YBF chicks unite…magic happens. And that proves to be true as Taraji P. Henson entertains the masses as Cookie Lyon each week on “Empire” while always looking uber fierce doing so.
The Oscar nominated actress and her makeup artist Ashunta Sheriff have nabbed 1 of the 2 newest covers of The Hollywood Reporter. Inside, the dynamic duo reveal how they first met, how Ashunta eventually became Taraji’s official makeup artist and Cookie’s makeup trends.
The YBF chicks met on the set of the 2006 crime drama flick Smokin’ Aces that Taraji was starring in. At the time, Ashunta was on the set to do Alicia Keys’ makeup, but after meeting Taraji, the ladies hit it off. They ended up becoming friends, formed a strong bond over the years and Ashunta eventually became Taraji’s exclusive makeup artist. No one else does her makeup and Ashunta is contracted to only do hers. She clearly has the magic touch!
Now that Taraji is starring in the hit FOX series “Empire” and slaying numerous red carpets, Ashunta has been putting in major work coming up with different looks. But for the show, she has to pretty much keep it the same as Taraji has to stay true to her character. A must-have product to pull off the perfect Cookie Lyon? Perfect Face Perfect Blend Foundation.
These days, women everywhere want to mimic Cookie’s fiery looks, which Ashunta described as “uninhibited, and that is giving women the courage to try new things. She isn’t afraid of the trends, whether it’s a dark plum or bright turquoise eye shadow.” While Cookie likes to play with trends, she still has a signature look that Ashunta describes as “a wispy lash, red or wine lipstick, winged liner and natural foundation coverage.”
While many women are flocking to YouTube to look up tutorials for the perfect Cookie face beat, Taraji says she tries to keep her own look as far away from Cookie as much as she possibly can. She dished, “I try to stay away from Cookie as much as possible when I’m on the red carpet. I like to be Taraji. I have enough of Cookie.”
And here’s a fun fact: Taraji is a member of the Local 706, the L.A. union for hair and make up. So that means, if she had no glam squad, she would stay slay on a red carpet. Work.

In other beauty news….
Rihanna is continuing to build her massive empire with the launch of her very own beauty agency. The “BBHMM” has founded a beauty and stylist agency she has dubbed Fr8me along with managing partner Benoit Demouy.
According to THR, Rih Rih’s new beauty agency will assist artists in booking commercials, editorial shoots, ad campaigns and red-carpet gigs. And it will be based in the fashion mecca of L.A. The Bajan beauty told the publication, “I am very involved with that part of my process, so this agency was an organic thing for me to do.”
The best part? She’s already got a few big names under her umbrella. The elite list of beauty and stylist mavens include Rihanna’s longtime makeup artist Mylah Morales, Taraji P. Henson’s wardrobe stylist Jason Bolden and hairstylists Patricia Morales (Evan Rachel Wood, Fergie) and Marcia Hamilton (Jada Pinkett Smith and the Smith family). Nice!
But check it….if you’re an up-and-coming makeup artist, hairstlyist or wardrobe stylist, you too have a chance to work for Rihanna. She said,”We are lucky enough to have some of the best artists at Fr8me, but I also have a soft spot for finding new talent with extraordinary skills!”
