Tony-Award winning choreographer Bill T. Jones’ musical adaptation of the 70’s blackploitation classic, Super Fly is finally headed to Broadway. The Broadway adaptation of Super Fly is expected to debut later this year, and will be produced by Tommy Mottola along with the Dodgers production company.

According to the casting notice, Super Fly is a mixed “drug pusher, stick-up artist and a child of the ghetto, he truly beats the system, outsmarting the corrupt police force so that he can break free and start a new life.”

So far, no announcements have been made regarding the cast even though it was rumored that American Idol alum Justin Guarini would play the lead role of Priest, aka Super Fly.

What has been confirmed is that the music of the late Curtis Mayfield will be used in the production along with other 70’s soul music icons. The show will also stay true to the film.
