Stevie Wonder is coming back to redeem himself after the lackluster Prince tribute at the Billboard Awards. In other news, Angela Bassett is gearing up to release a skincare line for women of color. Deets inside…
Everyone had an opinion about the bland Prince tribute performed by Stevie Wonder and Madonna at the 2016 Billboard Awards. It appeared it was put together at the last minute with no real thought (or singing when it comes to Madonna) was put behind it.
Just for the record, we don’t blame Stevie for being dragged into that mess.
Following the performance, BET quickly responded to inform Prince fans they the network has been cooking up something extra special for the Purple One during the 2016 BET Awards. And now, we know Stevie will be hitting the stage to pay tribute to his longtime friend. A re-do of sorts after the suspect tribute at the previous award show.
The Grammy Award winner will be joining Janelle Monae, D’Angelo, The Roots and Sheila E for the musical celebration spread throughout the show that will pay homage to the legendary artist. We feel like Stevie will go THERE for this performance.
In addition, new acts have been added to the BET Awards line up, including Jennifer Hudson, Erykah Badu, French Montana, Fat Joe, Remy Ma, Young Thug, Tori Kelly, Beyoncé’s rising music duo CHLOE X HALLE and Bilal. Previously announced acts include Usher, Alicia Keys, Future, Bryson Tiller, Desiigner and Maxwell.
A few presenters have been added to the line up as well, including Jamie Foxx, Taraji P. Henson, Jussie Smollett, Spike Lee, Chairman and CEO of BET Debra Lee, Wood Harris, Karrueche Tran, Deon Cole and Yara Shahidi.
Be sure to tune in to the 16th BET Awards ceremony airing live on Sunday June 26th at 8pm EST from the Microsoft Theater in L.A.
In beauty news…
Hollywood veteran Angela Bassett is getting her feet wet in the beauty world. And for those of us with brown skin, get ready to rejoice!
The “American Horror Story” actress has teamed up with Dr. Barbara Sturm for a specialized skin-care collection called “Darker Skin Tones by Dr. Barbara Sturm.” According to WWD, the line contains ingredients that aim to help the skin, reduce inflammations, even the tone and minimize pores and hyper-pigmentation.
Angela met Dr. Sturm through a mutual friend where she spoke to the German doctor about breakouts and irritations she was experiencing. The London Has Fallen star tried Dr. Sturm’s original line and was satisfied with the results. They then decided to do a spin-off on the collection specifically catered to women with darker skin complexions.
It took over two years to get it just right, but now, it’s finally ready.
The actress/producer said she wants people to become more aware of their skin and to “see what is good for it and ingredients that are helpful — and not invasive or irritating.” She continued, “I like them to be pleased when they look in the mirror, to feel good about themselves and the condition of their complexion.”
The five-item range includes a 150-ml. foam cleanser; a 75-gram enzyme cleanser; a 50-ml. face cream; a 50-ml. face cream rich, and a 30-ml. hyaluronic serum. Prices range from $58 to $335, for a hyaluronic serum. Sheesh!
It will be sold exclusively at Harrods in-store and online THIS July. Nice!
The are also collaborating on an (affordable) skincare line for teens as well.
