In the days leading up to the 2015 Super Bowl match-up, the Seattle Seahawks extrodinary secondary lands on the cover of the newest Sports Illustrated magazine and running back Marshawn Lynch surprisingly opens up to Michelle Williams during a recent interview. Also, Floyd Mayweather & Manny Pacquiao met for the first time last night at a NBA game. Get the deets inside….
We are days away from Super Bowl XLIX, airing February 1st at 6:30pm ET on NBC. And as the Seattle Seahawks (reigning Super Bowl champs) gear up to take the field against the New England Patriots, a major component of the Seahawks’ team landed the newest cover of Sports Illustrated magazine.
Star cornerback Richard Sherman (whose popularity skyrocketed after his infamous “rant”) posed it up with the “Legion of Boom”, a nickname given to the team’s dominant secondary (cornerbacks & safeties). It includes strong safety Kam Chancellor, cornerback Jeremy Lane, safety Earl Thomas III and cornerback Byron Maxell. Due to their physical play and “booming” hits on the gridiron, the defensive backs were given the nickname after dominating in many of the NFL defensive categories.
So how did they all end up on the cover? Initially, only Richard Sherman was approached to do the cover for Super Bowl week, but he kindly declined. He eventually said he would do it, BUT only if his teammates could grace the cover alongside him. Now THAT’S team spirit.
“I only want to be on there if we can all be on there. The Legion of Boom,” said Sherman.

How could SI not honor that wish? They are the top-ranked defense in the NFL. Well, his wish was granted. Sherman and the “Legion of Boom” graced the cover, while the rest of the defensive backfield were featured inside the magazine.
Oh…and they came with other demands as well. Sherman and his teammates decided they didn’t want grace the cover decked out in a Seahawks uniform, but rather, floss their own individual style. Nice.
Inside, Sherman writes,
“When you join a group of men and accomplish something so difficult and so rare, you no longer feel as though you have to prove things to people who haven’t proven anything to you. In most cases I have a better résumé than my detractors.”
Let ’em know Richard! Words of wisdom from the Stanford University graduate.
Speaking of the Seahawks….
Star running back Marshawn Lynch, who is notoriously known to NOT speak to the media, seemed to have warmed up a bit as he spoke with Michelle Williams during an interview yesterday. The former Destiny’s Child member was conducting interviews for “Entertainment Tonight” during the annual Super Bowl Media Day, where she got a chance to chop it up with reigning Super Bowl champ.
Surprisingly, Michelle got Marshawn to goof off a bit, and he even broke out in song! After gifting him a X-Box for being a good sport, he opened up about what he plans to do with the game console. He said he will be giving it to one of the kids from his Fam 1st Family Foundation, where he (along with others) helps improve the lives of children living in the Oakland area. Aww…Check it above.
Don’t think for a minute he would stray away from his usual protocol when it comes to doing interviews. During the Super Bowl Press Conference, Marshawn answered every question with the same response, “I’m just here so I don’t get fined”. Hilar. Check it above.
