On the stump for tax reform in North Dakota on Wednesday, President Donald Trump repeated one of his favorite campaign claims: that Americans pay more in taxes than any other country

“The taxes are crazy — the highest taxed nation in the world,” he told the assembled crowd. “We’re going to turn that around very quickly.”

The assertion echoed a Twitter message earlier in the day, repeating a false claim Trump made during the presidential election campaign.

“We are the highest taxed nation in the world — that will change,” he tweeted Wednesday.

In fact, the U.S. ranks in the middle of the pack when compared with the roughly three dozen developed countries tracked by the Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
