Rapper Killer Mike took Senator Bernie Sander for a “soulful” lunch ahead of a rally in Atlanta yesterday. Meanwhile, the Chi-raq creator and cast hit the carpet for the film’s Chicago premiere. More inside….
Well would you look at this.
Yesterday, rapper/activist Killer Mike enjoyed a lunch date with presidential hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont at the soul food restaurant Busy Bee Café in Atlanta. The presidential hopeful was in town to chat with his supporters at a rally to campaign for his presidential bid. And Killer Mike was tapped to introduce him.
Before the rally, the ATL rapper decided to take the senator out to lunch where they dined on fried chicken, macaroni & cheese and yams, according to reports. During their lunch, the twosome chopped it up about civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., Senator Sanders’ war on poverty and the grand fight against the ruling class. Killer Mike took to his Twitter to share his unlikely lunch date with his followers tweeting:

If you haven’t heard, Killer Mike started endorsing Sen. Sanders after learning about the senator’s fight to restore voting rights for those who lost their rights in an effort to end voter suppression.
After their lunch date:
The twosome made their way to the Deomcratic rally where Killer Mike took the podium to introduce Sen. Sanders. You can peep his powerful introduction above.
Killer Mike also chopped it up with reporters on the scene during the rally. He told them he plans on doing everything he can humanly do to advocate for the progressive underdog and then compared his campaign to Jesus Christ. His words, not ours.
He told ABC News:
“I don’t think any other presidential candidate would be able to take the hopes and dreams of African Americans from 2008, when we hoped and dreamed that Barack Obama would represent our community,” he said, praising Sanders message of income equality, expanded social programs and higher minimum wages.
“I think that this man represents policies that will set those things in action and light a new economic fire in my community and we’d be remiss not to know it.”
“At this point in time we have something far better for our community than what the Clintons are offering,” the musician continued. “Bernie Sanders is the only candidate right now, he is the absolute only candidate where if you line up his political campaign, next to the words of Jesus Christ, it lines up. It lines up.”
We see who has his vote.
On a red carpet….
As we get closer to the release of the controversial film Chi-raq (Dec. 4th), the movie’s creator and cast hit the red carpet for a screening in the city the film depicts. Chi-raq’s creator Spike Lee was front-and-center on the carpet at the film’s Chi-town premiere held at the Chicago Theatre on Sunday.
Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson took a break from Broadway to make an appearance on the carpet.
“Survivor’s Remorse” star and all around fab chick Teyonah Parris posed it up on the carpet. We’ve been following her on the promo trail and she has yet to disappoint with her styish ensembles.
“America’s Got Talent” host Nick Cannon, who we can’t wait to see play a gangsta in the film, was also in the mix.
Further down the carpet, he greeted Teyonah with a kiss.
“The Player” actor and Hollywood vet Wesley Snipes put on a dapper display before the screening of the flick. Fab times.
