Astounding photos show one of the massive, eco-friendly compounds where Tesla CEO Elon Musk lives. The tech tycoon’s home is flanked with solar panels on one of the five properties he owns in Bel Air.

Musk has reportedly spent $70.3 million on his Bel Air homes according to Variety. But this figure dates back to 2016 and it appears as if Musk has invested money into the main multi-story home which is surrounded by trees and a golf course. It is located next door to Gene Wilder’s old home which Musk purchased for $6.75 million in 2013 and converted into a private school.

New photos show the Spanish style home has solar panels, fitting for the environmentally conscious billionaire.

Elon Musk’s massive Bel Air home boasts giant solar panels. The billionaire has said he thinks solar roofs will be more popular than electric cars in the next few years

In October, the SolarCity chairman unveiled hidden solar panel roof technology. The panels are invisible when viewed from the street, yet are fully exposed to the sun.

One of the designs he showed off at the October presentation look similar to the rust colored tiles seen on aerial shots of his Bel Air home home. It is unclear if they are used on Musk’s Bel Air home.

Musk predicted that solar rooftops will be a sought-after product and gain traction in the marketplace, perhaps even outpacing sales of his electric cars.

He noted that electric cars in the past ‘didn’t look good… They were like a golf cart,’ but Tesla automobiles are now highly desired by movers and shakers including Hollywood stars and Silicon Valley entrepreneurs.

‘We need to make [solar rooftops] as appealing as electric cars have become,’ he said.

‘The goal is to have solar roofs that look better than a normal roof, generate electricity, last longer, have better insulation, and actually have a total cost that is less than the price of a normal roof plus electricity,’ Musk said.

‘Why would you buy anything else?’

Though the Space X CEO aims to explore the galaxy and send a manned mission to Mars, Musk doesn’t seem to be doing so bad on earth in his mansion equipped with roof top terrace gardens.

He bought one home for $17 million in 2012 after one of his splits with ex-wife Talulah Riley. He bought a $20 million home a few doors down listed as a 7,026-square-foot contemporary according to Variety.

He also bought Gene Wilder’s former home in 2013 for $6.75 million and converted it into a posh Bel Air private school.

A source told Variety Musk leased another home for three years before committing to the purchase.

One of his homes reportedly has seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms with four half bathrooms. It is 20,248 square-feet and hosts a gym, a two story library and a 1,000 wine cellar.

Elon Musk’s SpaceX has identified several sites on Mars that could one day support human settlement.

The firm is working with NASA to pinpoint the possible landing sites for its Red Dragon spacecraft – the precursor to its proposed ‘interplanetary transport system’ – and for future manned missions.

At a presentation in Texas last weekend, Paul Wooster of SpaceX revealed one site in particular appears to be a ‘promising’ candidate, with a flat terrain and access to ice.

In a February filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the California-based firm announced it has changed its corporate name to simply ‘Tesla Inc’.

The move is to reflect the Tesla’s transformation from an automobile maker to a diversified energy products company.
