A Chicago police officer and a woman were struck in a hit-and-run crash on the city’s South Side early Sunday.

The incident occurred around 2:20 a.m. as officers were handling a possible domestic dispute in the 6800 block of S. State St. in the Park Manor neighborhood, according to Chicago police.

A 43-year-old male officer was interviewing a 24-year-old woman in the street when a maroon-colored vehicle traveling northbound at a high rate of speed struck them before fleeing the scene, officials said.

Both the officer and the woman were taken to Stroger Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to police. The officer sustained “multiple injuries” and was listed in serious condition, police said. Further details on the woman’s injuries and condition were not immediately available.

One person was taken into custody in connection with the incident, CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tweeted at 10:43 a.m.

Charges are pending, Guglielmi said, and the investigation remains ongoing.
