A Chicago police detective died Sunday morning of an apparent suicide, according to the department.

The 43-year-old detective was found dead around 10 a.m. at his home in the 5700 block of South Nottingham Avenue in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood on the Southwest Side, police said. He was off-duty at the time.

Three other Chicago police officers have died by suicide in recent months, spurring the department to review how it handles mental health care.

An on-duty sergeant was found dead in his squad car in the first block of North Desplaines Street in the West Loop in September.

Also in September, a 54-year-old female officer was found unresponsive in the Calumet District parking lot at 727 E. 111th St.

In July, an officer shot and killed himself inside his squad car while on duty. Like the female officer, he killed himself outside the Calumet District station.
