North Chicago police and the Lake County Major Crime Task Force are investigating the shooting death of a man early Monday morning.

The gunshot victim was identified Tuesday only as a 29-year-old man from North Chicago, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Christopher Covelli, spokesman for the task force.

He said North Chicago police received a call of shots fired at 12:51 a.m. in the area of Green Bay Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Covelli said that as North Chicago police began checking that area, another call came in for Waukegan police for a report of a gunshot victim at South Lewis Avenue and Catalpa Street, not far from Vista Medical Center West.

The victim was subsequently taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The investigation revealed that the victim was shot in North Chicago in the area of the initial call, he said.

North Chicago called the task force for assistance and anyone with information is asked to call Lake County Crime Stoppers at 847-662-2222.
