Famous astrophysicist and TV personality #NeilDeGrasseTyson is currently being investigated by networks #FOX and #NationalGeographic after two women came forward and accused the emmy-winning “Cosmos” host of sexual misconduct.
Tyson took to #Facebook to address the accusations, which allege that he groped Dr. Katelyn N. Allers, associate professor of physics and astronomy at #BucknellUniversity, at an after-party following a meeting of the American Astronomical Society in 2009, @Deadline reports. Also, his former assistant #AshleyWatson claims that she was forced to quit her job over his inappropriate sexual advances.
“I’ve recently been publicly accused of sexual misconduct,” Tyson wrote in the post. “These accusations have received a fair amount of press in the past forty-eight hours, unaccompanied by my reactions. In many cases, it’s not the media’s fault. I declined comment on the grounds that serious accusations should not be adjudicated in the press. But clearly I cannot continue to stay silent.”
Tyson added that he welcomes an independent investigation. “I’m the accused, so why believe anything I say? Why believe me at all?” the post concluded.
The two new allegations add to one that was made some years back, when a woman accused Tyson of drugging and raping her in the early 1980’s.
He added, “Accusations can damage a reputation and a marriage. Sometimes irreversibly. I see myself as loving husband and as a public servant – a scientist and educator who serves at the will of the public. I am grateful for the support I’ve received from those who continue to respect and value me and my work.”
You can read the entire statement on his Facebook page, where he addresses each individual accusation made against him in great detail.
