A joint private memorial service for family and friends was held in Los Angeles for legendary Hollywood icons Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher, who died one day apart last week.

Meryl Streep, Ellen Barkin, Gwyneth Paltrow, Lea Michele, and Ed Begley Jr. were among the Hollywood stars spotted entering the family compound in the Coldwater Canyon area of Los Angeles.

Streep was pictured early on in the afternoon carrying white roses as she walked up the driveway on the gloomy afternoon.

Throughout the day on Thursday, there was a flurry of activity at the next door homes of the mother-daughter duo as the private memorial for the late actresses was held there for the family and close friends to mourn.

Fisher and Reynolds died last week, one day apart. Fisher, who had suffered a medical emergency on December 23 aboard a flight from London, died on December 27 at the age of 60.

Reynolds passed away on December 28 at age 84 after suffering a stroke at the Beverly Hills compound as she was making funeral arrangements for Fisher.

‘She didn’t die of a broken heart. She just left to be with Carrie,’ Todd Fisher told ’20/20.’

Fisher and Reynolds will be buried together at Forest Lawn-Hollywood Hills, reportedly on Friday.

Fisher has already been cremated, and some of her ashes will be placed into Reynolds’s coffin as she is buried in a private ceremony at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills, TMZ reported.

The Star Wars icon’s brother, Todd Fisher, and her daughter, Billie Lourd, have been planning the funeral in the wake of the Hollywood actresses’ deaths last month.

The simultaneous ceremony was complicated by the two stars’ differing wills, with Fisher wanting to be cremated and Reynolds expressly wishing to be buried.

The solution was to place some of the Star Wars actress’s ashes with her mom.

Reynolds’s son told ABC’s ’20/20′ on Friday he was planning the joint service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in California with the help of Lourd, his niece.

A family source, quoted by The Hollywood Reporter, confirmed that there would also be an event at the Beverly Hills compound where Reynolds and Fisher were neighbors.

‘I’m not sure what they’re calling it – a funeral or a wake – but it will be Thursday at the house,’ the source said.

‘It will be exactly what they both wanted, to be together.’

The family is understood to be planning a public memorial during which Meryl Streep will read they keynote eulogy, although no plans have been announced as to when it will be held.

It is thought the public ceremony will be more of a celebration of their work, where costumes from Singin’ in the Rain and Star Wars will be displayed.

The Star Wars cast and crew are expected to attend.

Lourd, 24, made her first public comment on the deaths of her mother and grandmother on Instagram Monday.

‘Receiving all of your prayers and kind words over the past week has given me strength during a time I thought strength could not exist,’ Lourd wrote under a picture of the three women.

‘There are no words to express how much I will miss my Abadaba and my one and only Momby.’

People inside and outside of show business have continued to mourn the two Hollywood legends.

Last week, fans created an impromptu star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame for Fisher, and peers like Star Wars’ Mark Hamill have written heartfelt tributes.
