Meghan Markle’s secret fashion inspiration has just been revealed, and it’s none other than her character from “Suits.”
Before leaving the hit TV series, Markle played the role of Rachel Zane in the legal drama show for six seasons. During an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Jolie Andreatta, the costume designer for “Suits,” revealed that Markle was so obsessed with the way Rachel dress that she copied it in real life.
“We’d always say that, if we could, we would live in Rachel’s clothes. Designing Rachel’s look was like being a kid in a candy store,” she said.
Andreatta also revealed that in order to dress Rachel properly, she had to think of the character’s personality.
“Watching, listening, and collaborating, along with constant treasure hunting and a little daydreaming, I was able to come up with a work wardrobe for each of the characters that also allowed their personalities to shine through,” she said.
Anna Duff, a journalist for The Sun, noted that Markle’s clothes, especially during her official engagements with Prince Harry, have a resemblance with what she used to wear as Rachel.
“For example, when Meghan headed to Wimbledon with sister-in-law Kate Middleton last month, she opted for a striped shirt that wouldn’t have looked out of place in an office. She’s worn smart pencil skirts on a number of occasions, sporting a gorgeous emerald green design during a recent visit to Ireland with Harry,” Duff wrote.
The journalist also talked about Markle’s pencil skirts, which she wore during a number of occasions. During her trip to Ireland, the Duchess of Sussex also wore a blazer and paired it with her trousers. She also wore a similar attire during some of the episodes on “Suits.”
But it is also important to note that Markle’s style has somewhat changed because she now has to adhere to royal protocol. Myka Meier, an etiquette expert, told Elle that some of these changes also had to do with her makeup, body language, and the way she carries herself.
