A man was shot after two people broke into his Far South Side home Friday morning after her turned from seeing a horror movie, he and police say.
The victim, who NBC 5 is not naming due to hsi concern for his safety, said he’d gone to the movies with his family last night and watched the horror film “Annabelle.”
He says the family was just about to go to sleep when he heard someone breaking in. To men entered the home in the 10600 block of South Avenue B in the city’s East Side neighborhood with a gun about 1 a.m., police say.
He says two armed and masked men dragged him to the basement where they pistol whipped him several times. Police say the man struggled with one of the intruders for control of the gun.
The victim says one of the men tried at least three times to fire their weapon–but the gun jammed. He says the second suspect then fired, but the bullet only grazed the homeowner’s chest.
The man’s neighbor, who is also not being named for safety concerns, was the first person to arrive.
“I’ve got cameras up and I’m planning for more cameras, probably some alarms,” he told NBC 5. “They are going to be watched all the time.”
The homeowner was taken to Trinity Hospital where his condition stabilized, according to police.
The victim says the suspects ran off with his wife’s wedding ring.
