A man was killed when he fell from a bicycle and was struck by a Red Line train on Chicago’s South Side Saturday afternoon.
Around 1:15, the man was riding a bicycle on the 35th St. station platform near Guaranteed Rate Field in the Bridgeport neighborhood when he lost balance and fell onto the track level just as a train was entering the station, according to CTA spokesman Brian Steele.
He fell onto the northbound track and the Howard-bound train struck and killed him, Steele and fire officials said.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office could not confirm the fatality. Further details, including the man’s age and identity, were not immediately available.
Red Line service was suspended between Roosevelt and 47th for about 90 minutes, with shuttle buses provided between those stops.
Full service was expected to resume shortly after 3 p.m., according to Steele.
