Earlier this week a man was arrested for trying to smuggle cocaine at John F. Kennedy airport in New York, and he got creative while trying to do so.

According to The New York Post, US Customs and Border Protection caught Mayobanex Ruiz Gomez of Dominican Republic after he tried to smuggle the illegal substance.

Gomez landed at JFK from the Dominican Republic on Thursday, and according to authorities, during an examination of his suitcase, he appeared to be nervous.

He was taken to a back room where authorities conducted a body search. During their search, five pounds of white powder was found taped to Gomez’s legs with electrical tape.

The white powder tested positive as cocaine and was seized. Authorities estimated that the amount of cocaine found of Gomez was worth about $83,000.

Leon Hayward, the acting director of CBP’s New York Field Operations said, “This latest seizure demonstrates our CBP officers being ever vigilant in protecting the United States from the distribution of these illicit drugs.”

Gomez was arrested on federal narcotics smuggling charges.

A similar situation happened earlier this month with a Manhattan resident, where he was caught trying to smuggle 10 pounds of cocaine also from the Dominican Republic.
