A live news broadcast of a police chase has inadvertently broadcast the fatal shooting of a suspect after he appeared to point a weapon at officers.

Los Angeles station KTLA broadcast the shooting on Monday afternoon during a foot chase in Long Beach, California, where officers with the South Gate Police Department were chasing a male and a female suspect.

News choppers were following a police pursuit of a white van with red rims, which was believed to be stolen.

The van screeched to a stop in the rear of a Target shopping center, and a male and female hopped out and began to run.
