LaLa Anthony has nabbed a new gig on the upcoming fourth season of the “Unforgettable” series. Meanwhile, there’s speculation that Ava DuVernay may be directing one of Marvel Comics’ diverse superhero films. And Jennifer Lopez lands a residency in Las Vegas. More inside….
LaLa Anthony may not have nabbed the role she went after for Barbershop 3, but she did land a role on an A&E series.
The “Power Playbook” author will be joining the cast of the resurrected A&E series “Unforgettable” for it’s upcoming fourth series. According to Deadline, La will play Delina Michaels, an up-and-coming medical examiner who has mastered everything in life, but love. Of course.
The fashion and cosmetics mogul has been keeping busy with multiple projects. She’s filming for a new film with Lance Gross titled Deuces, she’s gearing up for the second season of “Power” (where she recently revealed she will be doing a sex-scene) and she’s currently making rounds to promote her new self-help book. Nice.
Will directress Ava DuVernay be directing one of Marvel Comics’ superhero films? Possibly.
New reports reveal Marvel is courting Ava to work her magic behind the lens for one of its superhero movies, which include “Black Panther” and “Captain Marvel.” And sources are leaning more towards the Award-winning director to direct Black Panther (starring Chadwick Boseman—the first African-American superhero) set to hit theaters July 2018.
If the Oscar-nominated director does decide to direct one of the superhero films, she would become Marvel’s first female director to and the first African-American director for the company. Woot!
The Wrap reports:
Insiders told TheWrap that Marvel is intent on hiring an African-American director for “Black Panther” and a female filmmaker for “Captain Marvel.” DuVernay’s hiring would make her Marvel’s first African-American and first female director, which would no doubt double as a public relations boon for the company.
We’re keeping our fingers crossed!
The SELMA director has teamed up with Oprah Winfrey to create an original series for OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. Ava is on-board to write, direct and executive produce the drama, which is adapted from the novel “Queen Sugar.” She’s also working on an untitled movie about Hurricane Katrina with fellow producer and SELMA star David Oyelowo. And she also wrapped up a new CBS drama pilot “For Justice.” She works!
Guess who’s coming to Las Vegas? Jennifer Lopez!
The “American Idol” judge (above rocking a Zuhair Murad jumpsuit and Versace heels on last night’s show) will be bringing her starpower to headline a residency inside the AXIS Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. And it’s set to kick-off January 20, 2016.
