She’s an androgynous A-list star whose filmography boats a varied array of characters.

But her latest role, in a remake of 1977 Italian horror Suspiria, is certainly her most dramatic look to date.

Prosthetics have added a good two decades onto the 56-year-old’s appearance, with the distinctive star transforming into an elderly man on the Berlin film set.

Sporting a white wig, thick-rimmed specs and plenty of wrinkles, the actress ditches feminine attire for a grey knit pullover, beige tie, white shirt and knit trousers.

While in another scene, she dons a black beanie and a matching overcoat and looks no more familiar.

The star’s handsome partner must have found the transformation shocking when he first saw it, but as he stood on set, the bearded visual artist, 39, seemed to take it in his stride.

Well, the actress in question is none other than Tilda Swinton – star of such films as The Beach, Doctor Strange and The Chronicles of Narnia franchise.

The horror flick, which centres around the sinister goings on at the prestigious Markos Tanz Dance Academy in Berlin, boasts a stellar cast which includes Dakota Johnson, Mia Goth and Chloe Grace Moretz.

It sees Dakota and Tilda reunite with director Luca Guadagnino with whom they worked on A Bigger Splash (2015).

In the flick, Tilda stars as the vice-directress of the academy, Madame Blanc – originally played by Joan Bennett – but it remains to be seen whether she’s doubling up on the cast list.

Dakota plays American dance student Susie Bannion in the film’s lead role, who flourishes under the tutelage of Madame Blanc, before realising the horrific, gruesome reality of the school at which she studies.

Meanwhile, it was only on Monday that a trailer for Tilda’s upcoming Netflix film Okja was released in which the actress stars as corporate scientist Nancy Mirando.

Looking worlds apart from the old man on the streets of Berlin, Tilda sports blonde hair with a full fringe and piercing blue eyes.

The coming-of-age drama sees Mija (played by 13-year-old South Korean actress Ahn Seo-hyun) coming up ‘against the harsh realities of genetically modified food experimentation, globalization, eco-terrorism, and humanity’s obsession with image, brand and self-promotion.’

Okja also stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Steven Yeun, Lily Collins and Shirley Henderson.
