Chicago is notorious for being a rough city to live in, and with the help of a few recently popular artists, has gotten an even worse rap. But just in time for the holidays the non-profit Green Light Movement is looking to turn that around.
On Christmas Eve members of Green Light Movement will go to Family Rescue and Mathew House for the 3rd annual Gift of Warmth, where they’ll deliver basic winter garments to those in need. Family Rescue is a shelter for battered women and Children on 90th St. & Burley, and Mathew House is a homeless shelter on 37th & Indiana, both in Chicago. The day starts at 9 a.m. at Family Rescue where the Green Light Movement team, along with Santa, will distribute gift bags and winter garments to the residents. Shortly after, the team will head to Mathew House at 11 a.m. and distribute gift bags and lunch there.
Based in Chicago, Illinois, the Green Light Movement uses hip-hop music and community service as a way of combating violence in the community. The program is focused towards teens and young adults ages 11-24 but is really open to anyone who would like to get involved. But that’s not all, the driving force behind the Green Light Movement is Founder and Executive Director, Joron Burnett, aka JNAN, the Chicago based singer/rapper who’s worked with Slim Thug amongst other artists.
For more information visit the Green Light Movement website and if you’re in the Chicago area this would be a great opportunity to stop by and lend a hand.
That’s what I’m talking about!!!
