Gumbumpers, we told you about all the great things Singer, Actor & Businessman, Tyrese Gibson has on his plate the other day when our celeb correspondent La Tasha exposed him. We also touched on his Voltron Recordz and Gibson & Gibson Music Publishing and its new artists, producers and songwriters. Well, today we’re going to dig a little deeper and shed more light on the new talent he’s bringing to the forefront. To have someone like Tyrese giving you their seal of approval in black and white it makes all the difference.

Talent alone in the music game is not enough… Sad, but true. Relationships is key and oftentimes it’s those relationships that add credibility and trust to your arsenal. In comes 24-year-old songwriter, Kenyon Dixon. Dixon who is from Tyrese’s very own stomping grounds — Watts in South Central, LA has lots to be thankful for. He’s a singer with an extensive background. Currently, touring as a background vocalist with Ms. Kelly Rowland. In the past Kenyon has worked with greats such as: Usher, Kimbra, Faith Evans, Tank & Ginuwine.

Believe me when I say Tyrese has a keen eye for talent! Kenyon is a true force to be reckoned with; he’s an Artist, Songwriter and Producer. This day and age you have to have several irons in the fire and being on stage doesn’t always cut it, who am I kidding? It never cuts it! This is why you have to be skilled in multiple areas.

I asked Kenyon while on the Tyrese, Media Day conference call:

How do you stay competitive and fresh in an industry where there are so many talented producers?

He humbly answered:

“I create based on my own capabilities. It’s more-so about being the best at what I do!”

He also, says that he studies his peers. Which adds inspiration.

While growing up, Kenyon was surrounded by music. His father was a vocalist and guitarist, while his mother, brother and sisters were also vocalists. Kenyon grew up singing at church, which can attest to his breathtaking vocals. When Kenyon began exploring his musical gift, his first interest was rapping. Through his rapping, Kenyon was able to gain the majority of his writing skills. Later, Kenyon put rapping aside and began to focus more on writing, singing and producing.

In 2011, Kenyon received his first song placement entitled “What Took You so Long” on singer Tyrese’s Grammy nominated album, “Open Invitation.” Discovering Kenyon’s talent, Tyrese took him under his wings and helped him kickoff his songwriting career. Working with him opened the door to many opportunities.

Kenyon has decided to try his luck at pursuing his own music career. He most recently released his 3rd independent co-produced project titled “The Higher Ground EP” (Download at AudioMack.Com).

In addition to working on his EP, Kenyon still managed to lend his pen to other projects such as Tyrese’s “Open Invitation” album, and writing the fan favorites on TGT’s (Tyrese, Ginuwine, Tank ) #1 on Billboard “Three Kings” album: “Sex Never Felt Better,” “FYH,” and “Hurry.” He also penned Ann Nesby’s latest single “Through With You,” and more.

Noted for his impression on LA’s live music scene, soulful sound, prominent pen, and youthful swag, Kenyon is quickly attracting a broad range of supporters. Nevertheless, he is also becoming a favorite amongst the “New School” trendsetters of R&B.

When asked about his work, Kenyon replied, “It’s all vibe, it’s not really a sound. It’s more of a feeling, feel it!” Kenyon is definitely on the move and has many more projects coming up in the future. “You’ll know it when you hear it.

Tyrese bumps gums on Kenyon saying:

“Kenyon is from my hometown, Watts in South Central LA, so to have the honor of being a part of and witnessing his growth has actually inspired me. He’s a triple threat: singer, songwriter and artist who can truly hold his own and compete with the best of us out here. He’s the guy to watch in 2014 and beyond.”
