An 18 year-old high school senior at Catoctin High School in Maryland planned out a mass shooting at her high school in which she intended to die.
According to investigators, Nichole Cevario created a well-developed plan to carry out an attack on the school on April 5.
A shotgun with ammunition as well as bomb-making materials were found in Cevario’s home on Thursday, Frederick County Sheriff Charles Jenkins said at a news conference.
After reading the teenagers journal, the father made the decision to notify school officials of the potential threat. Nicole Cevario was removed from class and turned over to investigators. She was then taken to a hospital for emergency evaluation.
The journal contained detailed plans of the attack including information on school emergency procedures and drills conducted by staff.
“You can see the actual escalations, the frustrations, the planning, putting it together, and how she was going to pull it off,” Jenkins said.
Investigators believe that Cevario was acting alone and no one else was involved in the planning of the attack.
Explosive materials were found in her house, but they were put together to create an explosive device when they were found.
When Cevario is released from the hospital, there will be an arrest warrant charging her with possession of explosive material with intent to create a destructive device and possession of incendiary material with the intent to create a destructive device, NBC News reported.
