The ex-wife of former NBA player Lorenzen Wright has been charged in his slaying, police said Saturday. It’s been more than seven years since his body was found in a field near his hometown of Memphis.
According to NY Daily News, Sherra Wright, 46, was arrested Friday night in Riverside, Calif., and charged with first-degree murder.
The slain 34-year-old played for the Cleveland Cavaliers. His body was found on July 28, 2010, 10 days after his mother reported him missing to the police.
An autopsy report revealed bullet fragments in his skull, chest and right forearm.
The case took an interesting turn on Dec. 5, when Billy Turner, a deacon at the Church Sherra White attended, was indicted on a first degree murder charge in connection to Wrights murder. Turner has since pleaded not guilty.
According to a release from Shelby County district attorney’s office, they believe Billy and Sherra both plotted to kill the NBA player.
Police ended up finding the murder weapon a month ago in a lake about 75 miles east of Memphis.
“The weapon was key,” Memphis Police Director Michael Rallings said Saturday.
Sherra received a million from her slain husbands life insurance policy!
After it was official that Turner was charged in connection to Wright’s murder, the NBA star’s mother had a few words to say.
“Thank you, Jesus. Thank you, Jesus,” she told WREG-TV. “You gotta pray for what you want and that’s what I did.”
