The Senate has killed the Obamacare repeal bill and everyone on Twitter is praising one guy, John McCain, who returned to Washington early this week after a diagnosis of brain cancer.
McCain was instrumental in voting against the so-called “skinny repeal” proposal, a bill which would have left 16 million additional people without health care and driven premiums up by 20% per annum.
In a video widely shared on Twitter, the senator and military veteran is depicted as he approaches the front of the Senate chamber, holds the right palm face down then does a thumbs-down as he just says “No”, then walks away amidst Democrat applauses and Republicans’ gasps:
Naturally, McCain was not alone in voting down the repeal — Republicans Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska joined the Democrats in the final result 51-49 — but people couldn’t help expressing joyful support to the former presidential candidate:
Senator John McCain is a man of his word and a true hero. Compassion and heart wins the day.

Before the vote, McCain had told reporters to “wait for the show” as he arrived in the Senate chamber.
“Have you decided how you’ll vote?” press corps.
“Yes,” Sen. John McCain.
“Wait for the show.”

The navy veteran delivered a huge blow to Trump, who mocked him as “not a war hero” during the 2016 campaign.
He later explained his decision with a statement saying the “skinny repeal” failed short of their promises:
Skinny repeal fell short because it fell short of our promise to repeal & replace Obamacare w/ meaningful reform https://t.co/tZISIvccOO
