A couple was stunned when they were charged $898 for taking a ride with Uber after attending a music festival in Milwaukee.

Keith and Audra Tubin and their family had been at Summerfest on Wednesday when they used Uber, the festival’s official ride-hailing company.

The Tubins asked the driver to take them several stops and the driver said it wouldn’t be a problem. He also didn’t tell them how much it would cost.

The couple knew the first stop cost them $214, but they weren’t warned how much the next three stops would add to their bill.

With all four stops, the ride appears to be approximately 30 miles and would have taken about one hour, allowing for traffic.

The next morning, Keith woke up to a fraud alert on his credit card, which had been charged $898 for the ride.

‘I thought he was joking,’ Audra told WISN.

Though the couple tried to negotiate the charge with Uber over email, they didn’t get anywhere with the ride-hailing company.

‘When we contacted them they said nothing. We can’t do anything,’ Audra said.

Uber told the Tubins that the surge price was 8.6 times the normal cost and upfront price does not apply when stops are added.

‘We have reviewed the trip,’ the company told the couple over email.

‘The fare you were charged is within our estimate for a trip from your pickup location to destination. As a result, the fare was not adjusted.’

The Tubins told WISN that they do not plan to use the app again.

‘We could have rented a limo for the night, and had room for other people and probably saved money,’ Keith said.
