Here’s the latest on the Chicago Bears coaching search, as well as info on the assistants that are leaving the team.

EDIT: We’ve updated the article with all the latest on Josh McDaniels, Vic Fangio and Matt Nagy.

The Chicago Bears head coaching search is starting to take shape. They have already interviewed a couple assistants, and there is a reported schedule of them set to meet with a few other assistants.

Their first interview was a bit of a surprise as they stayed in-house and talked with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. Fangio was arguably the Bears best coach the last three years, and his defensive players all rave about him. While I doubt he’s a serious candidate to become head coach, I do think there’s a slim chance he stays to run the defense depending on the head coaching hire.

Yesterday the Bears’ were in Minnesota and they met with Vikings’ defensive coordinator George Edwards. The Bears tweeted out that they are staying in Minnesota to interview Vikings’ offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur this morning.

They’ll then catch a flight to New England to interview Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels later today.

EDIT: The Bears confirmed that they did meet with McDaniels this evening. McDaniels met with the New York Giants earlier today.

Yesterday afternoon it was reported on 670 The Score in Chicago that the Bears were double dipping on the Vikings coordinators on Thursday then heading to Philadelphia today to meet with a couple Eagles’ assistants. That may have a case of the update guy doing some speculating as I haven’t seen that discussed anywhere else.

On Saturday the Bears are reported to be in Philadelphia to interview Eagles’ QB coach, John DeFilippo. There hasn’t been any reports or rumors (other than The Scores) suggesting that the Bears will also speak with Philly offensive coordinator Frank Reich.

After the Kansas City Chiefs play in their Wildcard game on Saturday, the Bears are slated to meet with offensive coordinator Matt Nagy.

EDIT: Win or lose the Bears are interviewing Nagy on Sunday.

There was a report earlier this week that the Bears planned to interview Carolina Panthers’ defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, but the chatter around that has quieted down.

As for the Bears assistant coaches that just finished the 2017 season, a few have already moved on to new jobs.

The Dolphins are also reported to have lured offensive line coach Jeremiah Washburn back to Miami, where he was their assistant o-line coach in 2016. This time, he’ll be their primary offensive line coach.

Running backs coach Curtis Modkins is joining the Denver Broncos in the same role.

These three assistants all have either come out of their contracts or the Bears allowed them to leave.

Any assistant coach still under contract with the Bears will remain employed until the team relinquishes them of their duties.

EDIT: This Tweet clarifies the Fangio contract situatrion.
