Dr, Jack Kevorkian, the Michigan pathologist who put assisted suicide on the world’s medical ethics stage, died this morning between 2 a.m.  Known as Dr. Death even before launching his fierce advocacy and practice of assisted suicides, Kevorkian, 84, died at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, where he had been hospitalized with kidney and heart problems.

Kevorkian was released from a Michigan prison in 2007 after serving eight years for second-degree murder. He claims to have assisted in at least 130 suicides.
