The woman who was made famous by a video she made ‘telling her boss, she quit‘ is on her way to becoming a household name. Marina Shifrin’s resignation video went viral a few days ago and it shows her dancing to Kanye West’s “Gone.”
Maria took to the camera to let her bosses at the Taiwan-based Next Media Animation know she was “outie 5000.” The video has been viewed by more than 10 million people and it made national news! To think that such simple video which started as something she shared with friends and family would be Maria’s gold mine and claim to fame.
Maria sat down with Queen Latifah this morning and on the episode, Latifah asked Shifrin why she did the video and if she has regrets. Shifrin, who was all set to go ahead and try her hand at stand-up comedy next had this to say:
“Some people think I’ll never get hired, but luckily with stand-up comedy, you just need an angry bartender to let you on to stage [laughs].
Sometimes I think you need to forcefully close one door in order for the other one to open a little easier.”
Queen Latifah asked Shifrin if she was looking for a job, and she joked with the host, asking, “Yeah, are you hiring?”
To her surprise, Latifah said she could create a position for her:
“Now that you mention it, I like to be surrounded by cool, creative, interesting people. And with your experience, maybe I can create a position. What if I create something called…digital content producer? Would that be something you’re interested in?”
Shifrin thought Latifah was joking, but she definitely wasn’t.
“I’m a humorous person, but you’re the stand-up. I’m a boss. And bosses can hire!”
So, what did Shifrin say? She’s not a fool. She accepted Latifah’s offer and is going from news video creator, to internet sensation, to a soon-to-be stand-up comedian, and now a gainfully employed young lady for the talk show’s website. Congrats!
