A large emergency response was visible in Streamwood Wednesday night around a manhole where officials had been flushing the sewers earlier in the day–and at least one work was reportedly stuck underground.
Park Boulevard was closed between Woodland and Streamwood Boulevard as a perimeter was set where firefighters, paramedics and a HazMat team gathered around the manhole after 7 p.m.
Neighbors say for days Benchmark Construction has been cleaning out and relining the storm sewer system in this area. Sometime after 6 p.m., about the time crews quit for the day, one of the workers was reportedly found unresponsive underground.
Authorities were holding blue and white tarps over the sewer entrance.
Air handlers were brought in to pump fresh air into the storm sewer.
No other details were immediately available.
