I just can’t believe this, but a recent findings from the Census Bureau say that Chicago, the third largest city in the United States — has lost 17% of its black population over the last ten years while the Hispanic population has gone up by 3.3%. According to reports fromBloomberg, ”demographers and political analysts say Hispanics have been ‘strengthening their financial position at a faster pace than blacks’ and have a reportedly stronger ‘sense of nationalism.’”
Being outnumbered by Hispanics is not the worry here for blacks. The real concern is the bleak outlook of their financial situation in comparison to that of Hispanics.Bloomberg also reports that “blacks earn less and are more likely to live in poverty than Hispanics.” Even more alarming is the fact that this is not simply restricted to Chicago. Blacks across the country are lagging behind with their median household income being $34, 445 while the median for Hispanic households has risen to $40, 946.
Black folks, this shouldn’t make you angry, but make you want do better, and don’t get me wrong. I don’t think there saying that all black people do not work hard, but we should work together to help bring our people up to speed.
Gumbumpers, what do you think?
