Spanish actor Antonio Banderas is reportedly recovering from a recent heart scare, for which he was allegedly rushed to a hospital near his Surrey home.

According to The Sun, the 56-year-old screen star was in the midst of exercising on Thursday, when he experienced ‘agonising pains in his chest’, prompting a call to emergency services, who transported him to St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey.

The newspaper reports that the Spanish actor was kept in the medical facility for observation, eventually being released once it was deemed safe to do so.

Recovery: Antonio Banderas was reportedly rushed taken to a hospital near his Surrey home on Thursday, after suffering ‘agonising chest pains’ following a workout

The Desperado star, who resides in picturesque Cobham after several years in Hollywood, is quoted as telling The Sun that he was grateful for the work of the medics who took care of him, while confirming that he’d had an ‘episode’.

He bought his five-bedroom house in Surrey with girlfriend Nicole Kimpel, 37, in order to have a permanent base within commuting distance from London’s prestigious Central Saint Martins college, where he studied fashion.

The Mask of Zorro actor revealed the couple will live in their prefabricated Huf Haus, one of only 200 in Britain, for at least five years.

He splashed out £2.4 million on the property in a leafy area near Cobham in 2015, following his split from ex-wife Melanie Griffith, 59.

Speaking to The Sunday Times last year, he said: ‘This house gives me the simplicity and freedom I need in my life at the moment.

‘I find Surrey completely magical. I am not a party person anymore, so I have the space and peace to write and really get inside my own head — I am working on several of my own scripts.

‘I go cycling in the woods and everyone in Cobham, Weybridge and Esther is incredibly friendly. Above all I am surrounded by nature. I love watching the deer and foxes that come to my garden.’

Since completing his studies at Central Saint Martins, Antonio has gone on to begin work on his own menswear line.

Speaking of his former marriage, the Spanish star told E! News: ‘My life changed very much during the last two years, personal reasons,’

‘The possibility of reinventing myself was there, and so I said, “Probably this is the moment that I can do this.”‘

End of an era: The Spanish heartthrob splashed out £2.4 million on the property in a leafy area near Cobham in 2015, following his split from ex-wife Melanie Griffith, 58

The Autómata actress and the Spanish heartthrob share a 20-year-old daughter Stella, who, he says, was especially rebellious.

‘I told my kids sometimes, but in fact, the reality is I learned from them more. They were not very obedient, but I learn from them,’ admitted Antonio.

‘Especially from my little one, Stella. And at the beginning I thought it’s not the thing that’s actually making her look better, but then I realized it was part of a tendency.

‘Because I saw her coming home with a bunch of her friends and they were all in the same style, so it’s a tendency. Everybody’s going there for some reason. It’s very interesting how people, we all, react to tendencies.’
