A black actor on the HBO drama series “Treme” Robert Brown said in a lawsuit on Friday that he was stopped because of his race while Macy’s.
Brown says he was “paraded” through Macy’s Herald Square in handcuffs and detained for an hour after being racially profiled and accused of using a fake card to buy his mother a $1,350 watch….
Brown says he was targeted because he’s black.
Macy’s said in a statement it’s investigating the claim. The NYPD is also named in the suit. The city’s Law Department had no immediate comment.
Barneys New York CEO Mark Lee apologized in a statement Thursday about the claims against its Manhattan store, adding that “no customer should have the unacceptable experience” of being accosted by police after making a purchase at the store.
Macy’s says it’s investigating the claim.
The New York Police Department is named in the lawsuit. The city’s Law Department says it’ll review the lawsuit once it receives it.
