The O’Reilly Auto Parts Chicago World of Wheels begins celebrating its 55th year today at the Stephens Convention Center just outside the Windy City in Rosemont, IL. And what better way to kick off the three-day event than with a full preview of the 2017 Legend Cup Top 20 Finalists? By tomorrow, the selections will be narrowed down to the Select Six before the official winner is chosen and honored as the show wraps up Sunday with the presentation of the Legend Cup accompanied by cool $5,000.
The event brings with it plenty of history which includes competition for the coveted Legend Cup presented by Clean Tools, awarded for excellence in both style and design captured with quality and craftsmanship for a first-time shown car at the show. The Top 20 outstanding entries are selected on Friday and narrowed down to the Select 6 on Saturday with the winner announced on Sunday at the awards presentation which includes the Legend Cup and grand prize of $5,000.00.
First established in 2007, the Legend Cup has quickly earned nationwide prestige as one of the top honors among indoor show awards. As the promoter Championship Auto Shows puts it, “While the Legend Cup recognizes workmanship, degree of difficulty, engineering, and detailing, the crux of the Legend Cup was created to honor a vehicle that possesses outstanding style and design characteristics combined with quality and craftsmanship.” And though it is not an ISCA-judged award, the World of Wheels Advisory Board judging committee follows similar criteria in its selection process.
Since this is a “first-time shown” competition, tomorrow’s Select Six finalists obviously can’t have been featured at the Chicago World of Wheels prior to 2017. (Both the Top 20 and Select Six receive custom-made commemorative plaques/trophies created by Billet Specialties.) Come Sunday, the “chosen one” will receive the beautiful Legend Cup (sponsored by Clean Tools) and cash prize.
Stay tuned for all the weekend’s action from the 55th Annual O’Reilly Auto Parts Chicago World of Wheels—including tomorrow’s coverage of the Select Six finalists.
