A snowstorm that developed Thursday morning dropped more than an inch of snow on parts of Chicago before moving into the northwest suburbs, while areas in northwest Indiana got more than 3 inches.

As of noon, 0.9 inches of snow had been recorded at O’Hare International Airport while 1.4 inches had fallen at Midway International Airport, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Ricky Castro. Meanwhile, Chesterton, Indiana, got 3.5 inches of snow and Portage, Indiana, got 2.8 inches.

Areas south of I-80 in Livingston and Kankakee counties also got up to 3 inches of snow, including 3 inches in Cullom, 2.5 inches in Herscher and 1.8 inches near Peotone, according to the weather service.

By 11:45 a.m., the narrow band of snow had moved into the north and northwest suburbs, stretching over Waukegan, Elgin and DeKalb, according to the weather service. It was expected to drop between 1 and 3 inches of snow through 2 p.m.

Friday was expected to be partly sunny with a high of about 41 degrees, the weather service said. There was a slight chance of snow developing Friday night into Saturday morning, while Sunday and Monday were expected to be clear.
