Sociology Professor Eric Anderson in his new book “The Monogamy Gap: Men, Love and the Reality of Cheating.” In his study of undergraduate men, he found that a stunning 78 percent of those who had a partner cheated on them.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Anderson states that “infidelity does not break marriages up; it is the unreasonable expectation that a marriage must restrict sex that breaks a marriage up.” In other words, it’s not the cheating that breaks up marriages, it’s women’s unrealistic expectations that a man should have sex with only one woman.

He says: ‘Our physical desires don’t die; they just change from our partner to other people…When the sex dies, the relationship has just begun.’  To Mr Anderson, it’s better for men to cheat and repent for it, since telling their partner that they want sex outside the relationship is a tried-and-true relationship-ender.

‘When men cheat for recreational sex – not affairs – they DO love their partners,’ he tells the Huffington Post. ‘If they didn’t, they would break up with them.’

Over the years women have grown to accept the fact that men are born to cheat.

Dr. Anderson maintains that women should allow their men to stray without subjecting them to any of the highly emotional guilt trips that women are famous for.

Gumbumpers, how do you feel about this?

But it is indeed selfish for men to want sex with others but not to want their partners to do the same. This however is not just a “man” thing. Women also cheat; they also lie about it; and they also want to be able to cheat without their partners doing the same. Monogamy is a problem for all sexes!

Does his pholosophy regarding recreational sex work both ways? Have the men been asked about allowing their mate to roam as well?
