A family is mourning the loss of a 17-year-old after her was shot and killed by the father of a 14-year-old girl who snuck him in the home late last Saturday night. Dereck Fulton, who shot Jordan Middleton, claims he shot at him as he ran from inside a bedroom closet because he thought that the boy was an intruder.
According to reports, the girl brought the boy into the guest bedroom around 2:47 a.m. Fulton says he heard noises coming from there and that the dog was barking “uncontrollably,” so he grabbed his gun. The man also claimed to have let out a warning that he was armed and that whoever was in his home needed to identify themselves. No response followed, so once he saw Middleton run from the closet, he shot him in the chest. Fulton attempted CPR, but the boy was later pronounced dead.
No chargesshave been filed and there probably won’t be due to Georgia’s gun laws which allow homeowners to use deadly force if they feel threatened.
Via Daily Mail:
“Under Georgia gun laws, homeowners are allowed to use deadly force if a person is in the act of breaking or has broken into a home in a violent manner and the homeowner believes the intruder poses a danger to the household.
A homeowner is also allowed to use deadly force if a person who is not a member of the household has entered the residence unlawfully and forcibly.”
