A 77-year-old man died and an a 74-year-old woman was in critical condition after a three-car accident in Grayslake Wednesday, according to fire officials.
Peterson Road was blocked off near Behm Lane, the Grayslake Fire Department said, after a Chrysler minivan, a GMC Sierra pickup truck and a Honda Civic were involved in a crash in the area about 2:48 p.m.
The elderly man, who was in the minivan, was taken to Condell Medical Center in critical condition but was later pronounced dead at the hospital, authorities said. The woman driving minivan was also transported to the hospital on advanced life support, officials said. A 45-year-old Wauconda man who was driving the pickup truck was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, officials said.
Police said the Chrysler, driven by the 74-year-old Grayslake woman, was traveling eastbound on Peterson Road and attempted to turn left onto Behm Lane. The Chrysler was struck on the passenger side by the westbound GMC Sierra. The front end of the Honda Civic, driven by an 85-year-old Grayslake woman, was struck following the first crash, police said.
All of the people involved in the accident were taken to Condell Medical Center, police said.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office was conducting an accident investigation.
